About North Myrtle Beach Museum
On March 10, 2005, local businessman Dick Hester had a vision. He saw the Museum in its current location–the former North Myrtle Beach Library building. Hester imagined all the history of the region that could be collected and shared with local residents and with the thousands of visitors who enjoy our area.
Although the Museum is open, the work of collecting history never ends. To maintain the reality of a community building and regional history facility, North Myrtle Beach Museum needs assistance from people like you.

North Myrtle Beach History
Welcome to the North Myrtle Beach Area. Our community has a distinct legacy. Our region’s history began more than 10,000 years ago when Native Americans lived on the bounties of the environment. Today we are a caring community of people who work, worship, attend school, play sports, tend gardens, weather storms, rebuild businesses, and welcome thousands of annual visitors who enjoy the region we call ‘home.’
The Museum shares the history of the northeast region of coastal South Carolina–from the SC/NC line, south to Barefoot Resort, and west to Longs. Each community has its stories and the Museum continues to gather information on the towns, crossroads, and neighborhoods that make this area of South Carolina such a great place to live.
